Modern humans are thought to have evolved in Africa about 150,000 years ago. About 100,000 years ago they made an early foray into the Middle East, and at one stage about 74,000 years ago almost became extinct as a result of climate change in the Ice Age being reduced to about 10,000 individuals[1]. But then about 65,000 years ago, one group of modern humans left Africa and conquered the world. By this time, all other human species were extinct.
